History
Your RONA Mont-Laurier renovation center is the result of the fusion of three well-known families working in renovation area.
First of all, J.P. Constantineau, under Claude and Gilles Constantineau administration, as well as Michel Legault, basically well-known as general retailer, J.P. Constantineau was opened in 1948 in Val-Barrette by Jean-Paul Constantineau. Back then, the company activities were general retailing but gradually concentrated all operations to specialize in a hardware outlet and building materials since 1968. In 1975, still based in Val-Barrette, the company joined RONA’s organization. In 1981, the store was one of the ten first « Renovateur » in Québec. The same year, the Constantineau family bought a second store, L. Bonhomme & Sons, located on Léopold Cloutier street, in Mont-Laurier. The founder, Jean-Paul Constantineau, passed away the same year and the store based in Val-Barrette stayed opened until 1985.
MatEriaux C&E Whear was still owned by Cecile Lacasse-Whear and her son Charles. The hardware store began its activities soon in 1970, with Eddy Whear and son Charles. « At the beginning, we only sold construction materials. The store was held in the CP Rail old warehouse, near Bellerive Ka’N-Enda. We opened the store located at 1351 boulevard Paquette in 1989 », said Charles Whear. Mr Whear (father) passed away and Mrs Whear is now retired. The company on boulevard Paquette was a huge hardware outlet of 14 000 sq ft. and five sheds as storage facilities for construction materials. Whear had 27 employees at that moment.
On November 19th, 2004, an important transaction was concluded between the three partners of RENOVATOR J.P. Constantineau and C&E WHEAR MatEriaux of Mont-Laurier. Because they were two well-known families of the region: Constantineau and Whear, this transaction was largely publicized. The two companies were working in hardware and construction materials since many years and were both affiliated with RONA banners.
The store based on Leopold-Cloutier street stayed opened till the one located at 1351 boulevard Paquette was definitely installed -January 2005. Since then, only one company represents the RONA banner in Mont-Laurier.
In 1937, in the municipality of Saint-Lin - Laurentides, the grand-father Deslongchamps was proudly fixing a sign of the general store operating a hardware and renovation store. As years go by, gradually, father Roger and uncle Claude, took the lead until 1994. Then the father, exclusively began to operate Toitures Deslongchamps, another company founded by the family. He finally sold his shares 2001 enjoying a well deserved retirement.
In 2006, Eric Deslongchamps sold his owned shares and went back to his sources. A young entrepreneur who grew up in the RONA world, he is now leading the family business, RONA Mont-Laurier, under the famous RONA banner, at the current address, 1351 boulevard Albiny-Paquette, in Mont-Laurier. Following the three families influences, Eric first objective is to insure that Rona Mont-Laurier becomes the leader in the construction and renovation market of the Hautes-Laurentides !
